THE Spotlight is on You ..cont’d

Very good points here, friends. The focus of the next few posts will be some informational Q and A with the bloggers. It will involve me going over their posting habits, posts and their readers.

Here is Jonathan’s answer to my question:
What drives you:
“I guess you could say that I find it nearly impossible NOT to write!” Some of us would love to be compulsive writers like you, Jonathan.  I feel the same way but it has to do with creating data related posts. Mine tend to be technical. (Also, I am a compulsive list-maker. So by the time I am done with my task list, my Sundays are gone!)
Jonathan has said so much with the statement , “Consequently, my satisfaction comes from the finished product, as well as from my wonderful readers and the knowledge that others enjoy and appreciate my work.”
While the second part is true for all of us and we are focused on our readers, gaining confidence from the finished product is so true for me. I love to examine posts that have a clear cut agenda and are very complete when they are addressing technical issues. That gives me the most satisfaction. Just like the writer I am focusing on. Very Well Put Jonathan! (While Jonathan may be able to send  more detailed answers to my questions, for now this will have to do. )
Nena of You Unfolded focuses on two areas: A regular work out routine, which is about day to day progress, and the great  journey  she has undertaken documenting this.
An answer to my own question:
How have these  two blogs affected me? ( Without this, I would not read their blog as often.)
  1. Yesterday I thought about work out and hiking blogs. I decided to act on an impulse and walked at least 3 miles.
    Today I hurt, but now this blog post is helping make recover productively. My finished product has really lifted my spirits. Thank you Jonathan and Nena.  Nena hasn’t written or answers  to my queries, but she will.
  2.  Jonathan’s blog has driven me to be more productive with my blog. I do all the work but most of it is for my actual work. Blogging has made me sharpen so many skills. So I am using the recovery time, as I pointed out before, to post.
The spotlight is on how two of my blog buddies are so disciplined and how they put in work EVERYDAY!
Nena has posted so many times, I have lost track. Jonathan has many many posts on fantasy fiction, and his poems are gathering fans.
Would you like your blog to be covered? I would be happy to do it. Just leave a comment here. You don’t have to be a compulsive writer like Jonathan.

THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON YOU!

STATISTICAL surveys of blogs is a tricky process.
In the past few months I have been busy looking at several blogs. They range from highly technical areas like engineering, analytics and healthcare to blogs about fashion, shopping, cooking. All these areas show many interesting trends.  Today I have some questions for you.
You have been regularly writing, taking pictures and posting. I love reading your blog entries and seeing your photos.  I have commented on many.
Now I have some questions for you.

What drives you to write?
What kind of reward do you expect?
How much time do you devote to your blog?
What awards have you won because of your blog?
What is your best post so far?
Whose blog do you follow  the most?

While I want all of my readers to answer, I was hoping to focus on two of my blog buddies, Jonathan Noble and NENA!
Johnathan Noble's blog is interesting. Please read it. His handle is noblethemes.
He never fails to post.  He would be a publisher's delight. Always something interesting. Maybe he will write the next Vampire/GoT book.

Then there's NENA!  She is so fun and smart. I admire her dedication. She is very disciplined. She posts regularly and is so pleasant. No wonder she has so many followers.
She will draw you into her life. She makes a real connection with the reader through her work-out posts.

An animal activist on Facebook has been abused and Harassed by members of H.O.P.E.
Desiree Redburn of Launceston Tasmania called one Animal activist  a "bloody git" and before that said " Don't be bloody stupid".

Abusing an animal activist is animal abuse because it prevents people from fighting as a team on social media.

Kelly Saxton Coldeaway is the self appointed leader who told this activist to NOT report the abuse to the authorities.

Beth Wyndham is the one that called Desiree Redburn over to  the post where this activist was attacked.
Jennifer Link seems to take Desiree's side.
Claims she was 'kicked out". Likely ha ha.. I bet those are total lies.

Desiree Redburn selectively bullies and harasses this activist. There are so many comments from her where she DOES not bully or abuse ANYONE else!

Please get onto Facebook to support this abuse activist, MaryJo Lester.

Desiree Redburn intentionally said these things to hurt MaryJo because she saw that Kelly was upset at MaryJo for being very independent and knowledgeable. Beth Wyndham put her up to it. With so much harassment and so many political aspects, are they supporting animals or having an ego stroking event?

HELP THE ANIMALS.  Don't attack other animal activists. Where is you integrity as a group leader? Are you even remotely literate like MJ?

In 20011,  Via Reuters, Tim Geithner summarized the effect of stolen technology on the US economy. China has been very aggressive in copying technology. If US made products were to be sold in China, they would have to be produced there.
Here is a direct quote from Tim Geithner :
"We're seeing China continue to be very, very aggressive in a strategy they started several decades ago, which goes like this: you want to sell to our country, we want you to come produce here ... if you want to come produce here, you need to transfer your technology to us," Geithner said.
The United States' trade deficit with China hit a record $273 billion in 2010. This is old news. The latest numbers are worse. Had $273 billion had been pumped into the economy, for 300 million US residents in 20011 , what do you think your life would look like? What kind of stimulus check would that be?

Our blogs are a microcosm and a parallel universe, where our work, a product of years of study and hard work , is being openly and blatantly stolen.
Here are some questions that I have posed to my students, colleagues and friends.

From Harry Potter to the latest self driving models, everything is at a risk of being copied.
How can this be prevented?
It can be prevented by buying Made in USA products.( Aren't Facebook, Google and Twitter  homegrown?)
Everyone can help by buying Made in America products.
According to Matthew Aid, Humint spying is causing inventors to lose money. How about not selling to China? Not admitting the students? Being more stringent in English standards. The poor language may be OK for them , but the loss caused by them is so high that they make other countries look like friends.

The first time that I read this, I thought that it was a paranoid approach. Now I see first hand how blatant the IP theft is.
If each year, had Hundreds of Billions of dollars were not lost to China, do you think we would have faced the foreclosure crises? Would we have faced joblessness?

FROM THE DAILY CALLER : 8000 CHINESE STUDENTS EXPELLED FROM US SCHOOLS.

BLAKE NEFF WROTE ABOUT 8000 CHINESE STUDENTS BEING EXPELLED FROM THE US.

80% WERE EXPELLED AS A RESULT OF POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OR CHEATING!!!

THAT IS 3%. THE TRAGEDY IS THAT I SEE SOME PLAGIARISTS EVERYDAY, EVERYWHERE. THEY JUSTIFY PLAGIARIZING BY SAYING THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT AS A COMPLIMENT THAT MY WORK WAS WORTHY OF PLAGIARIZING!!! THEREFORE, BY THAT LOGIC, MY LOSING SALES IS A COMPLIMENT? MAY I PLEASE PLAGIARIZE THEIR WORK AND NOT PAY THEM ROYALTY?

IF 8000 IS 3%, THEN imagine how many are still here. The professors here fight a losing battle because the Chinese students pay full tuition. (As someone who has never studied without a scholarship, I would never pay tuition. My logic is very simple: unless I am very good, I wont attempt to study it. If it gets my attention, I will work hard to be in the 95th percentile. BY THE SAME LOGIC, I DON'T PLAGIARIZE.)

My Chinese dorm-mate stole from me.  As did a superior. When I filed charges, both of them said that this was a cultural difference, and that in China no one cares. Everyone takes from everyone else. I asked my dorm mate to steal from the Dean's niece who was in a room across the hall. She was caught. I did not drop the charges. As for the superior, our lab got even.

You can fight one or two people stealing your ideas. How do you fight a nation or a culture?

Don't get me wrong.  One of my best pals from NYC, who died of a glioblastoma, was half Chinese.

My thesis is that plagiarism throttles innovation and creativity. IF some kid did not share a beautiful, elegant cancer drug idea fearing patent trolls and plagiarism, should you not be angry with this culture?  Please share you plagiarism experiences. If you don't comment, I will assume that you don't mind this plagiarism.

THE CHECKLIST AND WORKSHEET TO FEELING CONFIDENT WITH YOUR EXPERTISE

SOME OF MY FRIENDS  ARE EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELDS, BUT THEY THINK THEY HAVE NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE. MY TRAINEES DID THE SAME. SO I CREATED A LIST OF SKILLS THEY HAD. I REMOVED THEIR NAMES FROM THEIR RESUME'S AND SENT THE RESUME' TO HR. I ASKED IF THEY CAN WORK WITH THOSE CANDIDATES. HR SAID:"YES, RIGHT NOW!"
I AM NO MAGICIAN. I CAN ONLY WORK WITH IT RESUME'S. STILL THAT  IS WHAT THEY NEVER EXPECTED.
I HAVE REQUESTED MY PALS TO BLOG AND THEIR ANSWER IS : I DON'T KNOW THAT MUCH.

Me, I'd give a lot to work from home. I already do. I developed a worksheet and a checklist for my students who wanted to earn money on the side. This should work for you.
THE WORKSHEET:
  1. Document as many instances as possible where you impressed yourself, your colleagues and bosses with your work.
  2. What was your best test score and why?
  3. When did you coach anyone?
  4. What and how did you troubleshoot anything at work?
  5. Name some un-reacheable goals at work.
  6. What have you tried so far?
  7. Since those methods failed what will you try?
THE CHECKLIST :
  1. You picked a goal.
  2. You have a deadline.
  3. You have a strategy and list of smaller goals.
  4. You are networking.
  5. You are gathering rejection letters.
  6. You are documenting your efforts
  7. You are eliminating methods that don't work, polishing things that do.
AFTER 60 DAYS, YOU WILL HAVE GAINED SO MUCH.
MY FAILURE IN TRAINING: HOW I USED IT TO LEVERAGE MY NEXT TRAINING SESSION.
Teaching programming and scripting languages is tricky. I gave my trainees some work. Only 5 out of 24 got the job done.
They had material and lectures, so why the poor performance? I broke the task into tiny portions. I have 85% success. So the  trouble was that I expected them to blend some important functions and sew together 70 lines of code with new functions. Some used subroutines. I also gave them code to debug. It was some 150 lines in length and had many variables.
I told them that i will devote two sessions till everyone got it right. By the next Monday. everyone had the coding work down. It cost me two sessions, and so I failed to complete the syllabus on time.
I used that anger hurt and fear to my advantage: I began using the above worksheets and checklists.
I created a way of tracking progress and awarding bonus points to those who finished tasks on their own. I then made them demonstrate their methods to those who were lagging behind despite hard work. This symbiotic approach helped in four ways:
There was less disruption.
There was more training "ground" covered!!
Assignments were complete.
The syllabus got finished before the last class, so we reviewed all material.

THE COST OF FIGHTING PLAGIARISM, THE BIGGEST DOWNSIDE TO THEFT.

THIS POST IS THE SUMMARY OF WHAT I HAVE SEEN OVER THE YEARS.
THE INVENTOR HAS A RIGHT TO FIGHT PLAGIARISM. WHAT IS THE PRICE OF FIGHTING IT?
COPYRIGHT, TRADEMARK AND PATENTS BY THEMSELVES ARE EXPENSIVE, LET ALONE THE PRICE OF FIGHTING PLAGIARISM.
SCENARIO 1: An innovative intern creates a product that will save money, time and effort. His boss steals the idea and presents it to the world. The intern cannot fight the 40+ boss with friends in high places.
SCENARIO 2:
Day 0
A tyrannical dictator of a boss demands that no one leaves till their bottle neck issue with sales and the dipping numbers in production and distribution are solved. It violates so many rules, it's not even funny! A naive but brilliant employee then provides a viable solution with his outside the box thinking. 14 other employees are relived that they now have a solution and can go home.
Day 1
The area manager and the site directors congratulate the tyrannical boss for his idea. 14 witnesses commit a lie of omission and then the one who came up with the idea does not get credit. If he sues his company or so much as demands and acknowledgement for his idea and a promotion based on how he out did  14 others, while underscoring their lack of ethics, he now has a terrible future. the boss gets a promotion and is assigned two new interns he can harass.
Day 2
Law suit filed. Employee who spoke up is terminated because his desk had too many paper clips.
Day 21
Employee has applied to 9 new companies, but now has been black listed and has no references to speak of and even his best friend at work refuses to provide a testimonial to employee's brilliance , to the bosses misbehavior.
Day 31
Employee now works at Apple store.
Day 1214
Judge finds for employee-plaintiff.. He is awarded the cost of the lawsuit. Attorneys Howe Dewey and Cheatem buy a yacht.
Even the football coach who bent the rules for recruiting has a job and several endorsement deals. Brilliant Employee has a small time job and no future.

2) Joany Chou a post doc invented the Herpes avccine, from what I understood. She said to her boss that it could be patented, He did not respond very clearly. soon after she was not allowed back in the lab (!!!!).
She then discovered that he had filed a patent and that he  had been collecting royalties.
She won the case. Now what? Do you see her proudly leading the research life that she should have? Did Harvard invite her for a short period to teach, carry out a small research project? If you know what she is doing please let me know. The sad truth that I see when students and employees stand up and fight  then they have a terrible life. They seem to be living in the shadows. Plaintiffs and whistle blowers never live an easy life. The miscreants seem to have so much power.

THE ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF THEFT
A company or a startup invests everything it has and then sells a product. The 2nd month sales dwindle. Someone has copied it and is manufacturing it without paying royalties. A small startup where an entire family, with Mom, dad kids, uncles and cousins are working, has to declare bankruptcy.  They now have losses of thousands of dollars. IS IT ENOUGH THAT THEY MERELY THINK PLAGIARISM IS ACTUALLY A COMPLIMENT THAT THEIR PRODUCT IS GREAT ENOUGH TO BE STOLEN? Manufacturers need to license the technology the design and the utility patents associate with a product.
The lack of severe punishment of plagiarism and infringement causes most inventors to hide their inventions.
